How to set LXDE as default environment

Hi & sorry if this has been posted;
Searching I either get nothing or too many links depending on terms.

I have a Compaq Evo N400c freshly loaded with 12.1.
I tried Gnome then KDE but the hardware seemed too slow for either so I tried LXDE which *screams *compared to either **G **or K.
Don’t need the software integration provided by **G **or K. Wireless works well so LXDE seems to be the answer.

So what I would like to do now is make LXDE default on startup.
I do know I have to use YaST > System > /etc/sysconfig file editor then change Desktop > Display manager > DISPLAYMANAGER to ???, and Desktop > Window manager > DEFAULT_WM to ???. What do I change DISPLAYMANAGER & DEFAULT_WM to?

I may keep either **G **or **K **around should I need the integration or indepth system work (which I should be able to do in a terminal window in LXDE) so the need to make LXDE default is there.

Thanks

Advance

You can easily set LXDE as the default by choosing it as the session in your login manager. Just do a quick log out if you have it set to automatically log you in.

Alternatively, “startlxde” for default window manager, although I think it will still log you in to whatever your last session was.

Strictly speaking there is no such thing as a default environment but, as you will always login to the environment you were using when you shut down, you simply have to make sure that, if you use another environment, you log back into lxde (using the Sessions icon at the bottom left of the screen) before you log out.

It is the one you get the first time after creating the user.

## Path:        Desktop/Window manager
## Description:
## Type:        string(gnome,kde4,kde,lxde,xfce,twm,icewm)
## Default:     kde4
## Config:      profiles,kde,susewm
#
# Here you can set the default window manager (kde, fvwm, ...)
# changes here require at least a re-login
DEFAULT_WM="gnome"

It is obvious, no?

Thanks to all who responded!

After logging out with LXDE as the Manager it is default logging back in. (I never tried it as I always selected “Other” to select the Desktop)

DEFAULT_WM is obvious, DISPLAYMANAGER is a little more confusing as these are my choices:

kdm, kdm3, kdm4, xdm, gdm, wdm, entrance, console or any value

So I guess all is well unless someone would like to follow up with the DISPLAYMANAGER setting.

Thanks again!
