Aplication Launcher -> Aplisations -> System -> Desktop Aplet ->
Online Update Aplet. Running it installs aplet into System Tray.
But when I bring up the Settings, it only asks if I want to start the updater automatically and the frequencyof checks, but not if I want to install updates, specially non-interative ones, automatically.
I have installed Gnome, but in the Start-Up manual, page 50, it shows that the Update Settings window of Gnome Update Applet allows you to set automatic install of “nothing”, “security patches only” or “all”. This used to be possible with the YaST2 tool Online Update Configuration, which does not exist anymore.

I can’t comment really, because I never use Online Updates and would never let run auto anything.
I have had no problem in the past installing the security patches overnight in all my 12 lab computers. I can’t trust my students to remember installing them manually.
In addition, now the updater does not remember the root password as it used to, which makes matters more complicated. I submitted a bug report already. ( https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=626357 )
SuSE 11.3 does still have Online Update Configuration, but it is not installed by default.
To install it, open up the Yast Control Center, then Software Management. Search using the keyword “update”. Near the bottom of the list you will find yast2-online-update-configuration, which you can install.
When the installation is complete, close the Yast Control Center and reopen it. Online Update Configuration will be present.
