I have wine installed. I installed the game. But it does not work. Would you please help me to run it…
Hello aliorhanaydin,
I’m afraid there’s not enough information in your post.
Could you tell us which version of openSUSE you use?
If you use KDE or GNOME? Which version(s) of wine you tried?
And what do you mean by “it does not work”?
Does it start but is unplayable, does it crash, what is the output when you run it from terminal?
Best of luck!
openSUSE 11.3 is installed. GUI is Gnome. I do not know wine version but it must be the latest. I regularly update software.
When I launch the game it gives the following message:
The program SilentHill.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This will not be unique to openSUSE. I think you’ll get a better chance of resolution if you post at the WineHQ forums:
WineHQ - Mailing Lists / Forums
A quick search of ‘silent hill’ there, results in numerous listings:
You may even need to consider using Steam
running Steam via wine on OpenSUSE 11.3 - Steam Users’ Forums
Though I’m not really a wine expert, but there are improvements that sometimes make a lot of different from one version to another. To check which version of wine you have you can use the following command:
rpm -qi wine
There are 3 lines which are interesting: VERSION, RELEASE and the last one which says which repository you are using. On openSUSE we have updated packages of wine thanks to Marcus (one of wine’s developers who is a openSUSE contributor). I suspect your version of wine is probably old, and you should try a new one… I would suggest you would use the one from this repository:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Emulators:/Wine/openSUSE_11.3/
That’s 1.3.19 (the latest version).
According to Wine’s AppDB the game should at least run. It’s rated as Bronze and Gold for several platforms… Gold is playable with some performance (Platinum is great) and might require some tweaking. Though I’m not a wine guru, sometimes games run with native wine DLL’s, other times they require the real ones from Microsoft (that’s where winetricks kicks in) and some other kinky tunning.
My advice would be to upgrade wine to 1.3.19, check around in community forums what tweaks you are required and it should most likely work. If it’s rated Gold, I don’t see why it wouldn’t run.
