How to run my canon pixma printer on opensuse

Not so long ago i started to learn working with linux. Thats why i’ve found opensuse
Nice system but a pain in the ass if you talk about installing software if you ask me.

Now my next problem is this,
i bought an Canon Pixma MG5250 yesterday
everything went well installing it on my windows system… (technologie makes us lazy)

Anyway, lets talk about opensuse… its installed on my laptop
i wanted to connect my laptop with my printer trough wifi
But how is just one big question for me???

Can anybody please help me with this?

thanks in advance

Canon will provide drivers for most Linux distros… but the trick is to find them - they are spread across the Canon Europe, AU, and china websites.

Yours can be found here:
Canon

You want the first and last items (the rpm files). Install those first.

Once that’s done, it’s just a matter of configuring CUPS. Point your browser to http://localhost:631 and follow the options to add a printer. The only major difference is that instead of specifying a USB connection to your printer, you specify a network connection (usually the printer’s IP.) I haven’t done this before, so I can’t help with the details there, but once you’ve installed the drivers, you should at least be able to connect by USB and print that way.

Hopefully someone else can point you through the wifi part of it - that shouldn’t be too difficult once you’ve got the drivers and filters for your printer installed, since that’s what’s critical to getting your PC to talk to the printer.

im getting my head spinning allready…
well thats the point there is no way for my to connect te printer with usb becouse the usb is allready installed on my windows system (desktop pc)

but there is a way to connect the laptop on my printer via wifi right?

if you search these forums, especially the ‘hardware’ forum, for “canon
pixma” you’ll find a couple threads dealing with this. in short, canon
makes drivers available for linux, and they work with opensuse. perhaps
not for your exact model no., but a close match should do.

one problem is that canon drivers are built for 32bit architecture. if
your system uses 64bit, you will have to install a few 32bit compatibility
libraries; the details are mentioned in those threads i remember reading,
but am too lazy to look up for you now.
