Thanks, as usual, for your help, this time with my dmesg output.

(a) Sorry, but where did you see the snd_ac97_codec module in the output? I couldn’t find it.

b. could you also be having an interrupt problem. (…) What interrupt is your sound card using?

To be honest, I have no clue what an interrupt is, nor which one my sound card is using. How do I find out?

I just upgraded to openSUSE 11 on the weekend, and now the sound seems to work after booting up again.

No idea why (which is frustrating … ), but at least it works!
