There were talks of this in the factory mail list, but I’m not sure if
it is supported yet.

It aint supported.
Sadly there is not even added choice between syslog-ng and systemd journal
So even if journal work for you you still need syslog-nt or rsyslog.
So a bit different question:
How to configure OpenSuSE 12.3 to use chosen log implementation?
(So I can add journal as preffered one by hand, and then remove rsyslog from startup, etc.)
