I just upgraded 153 > 14.4 using the online method. Apart from the elsewhere mentioned MESA-dri problem (that hits more people), my problems are with KDE. It undid some of my settings, or invented new things I never had, or that I switched off long ago.
Some of them were easy to repair (like removing one of two Firefox icons in the panel, same for Dolphin), but one thing I can not find how to get rid of in the many, many places KDE has configurations.
It is the op-up that I got a mail and the icon that then shows with an ! until I click on it.
I tried to remove the whole thing, but then all of Clipboard, Sound and more are going with it.
There is a check you can make âdo not disturbâ, but then it show an old church-bell with a red line. I do not want the whole thing. It never was there before.
Does anybody has a hint on how to stop it annoying me, best by removing it completely.
In general, notifications issued by native (and a few 3rd party) KDE applications are controlled by:
System Settings -> Notifications
There are global settings shown first which apply to all notifications, (unless individually over-ridden). By selecting âConfigureâ (bottom of screen) individual KDE components can be configured, both applications and system services.
Select the application or service then âConfigure Eventsâ to change the behaviour of the various notifications that are available.
Those are the things I (obvious) found, but did not help me.
Either using Systemsettings > Notifications, or hover > right click > configure I get https://paste.opensuse.org/95324288
BTW, you see the blue notification ball lower-right.
As you see I have switched off all things I ciould find there.
The whole group, from and inclusing the Notifications icon (when it is there, the Clibborad, the Volume, the up-arrow that shows the hidden ones, is one container that you can remove (and, I was lucky yesterday, that I remembered the name and thus could restore) as one unit only.
It is difficult to remember all the actions I did, but if I remember correct, in the begin also a new feed arriving in Akregator triggered a notification (including popup). But using the same way as above for Kmail, setting all to âoffâ those are gone. That would point to a bug special for Kmail in this jungle.
In system-settings-notifications try clicking the
Applications: Configure tab. It might be there.
If youâre not sure click the help down the left of the window to see the instructions
while youâre in it.
When I click there on Applications / Configure, I get image 2, where I then click (after I had already unchecked Show Popups yesterday, but I still get popups) Configure Events âŠ, which brings me to image 3 where you see that State of all is empty (wasnât before I removed yesterday). Realy do not know where to click any further. The because doinf the same for Akregator did help.
That is a Kmail feature I am using already for years. It shows an icon (en envelope) when there is unread mail. So it indeed warns me, but not with all the stressful interrupting pop-ups and not with a list that I apparently have to clean and all the other fuzz of the Notifications.
So, that is the one that I always used and still use.
Same for showing unread Feeds in Akregator. Just a silent one that I look at when I take a rest from what I am doing on the system.
If kmailsâs icon for new mail is an envelope, and KDEâs notification symbol is a âbellâ, what is actually creating the blue circle ( i = info? ) icon?
If you mouse over that (blue circle) icon what does the tooltip text show?
I have 15.4 on a live USB, if Iâm able to find time later this evening Iâll set up kmail and see if I can replicate what your seeingâŠ
The blue ball is just the Notifications (in general) that I want to switch off. When I set Notifications to Do not Disturb, it turns into the bell with red . I do not know why two so different icons for the same âfeatureâ. It could bethough that the âblueballâ is different with a different theme and that the bell is the original one, the theme lacking a replacement (or do I talk nonsense now, not really understanding themes).
The envelope is the Kmail âunread mailsâ (the one you found in the Kmail configs) that is independent from the Notification one. And it removes itself when all mails are âclicked onâ and thus âreadâ.
The second one is the one I want (and have and had for years).
See: https://susepaste.org/92468257
It shows the âdo not disturn meâ version of the Notifications and at right the envelope of Kmail.
I clicked on the Notifications and it shows all notifications it gathered. All things I do not need and do not want
Thank you. That is what I hoped for when starting the thread. That someone knew where in the multitude of the KDE, often rather hidden, places to find this.
I am afraid I will never understand the logic of the KDE people where to offer the configuration of what.
Thanks to all that were looking into this, probably searching in the wildest places in KDE configuration land.
Was then about to try to replicate your issue, no need now I see
Be aware, that will disable all KDE issued notifications⊠but maybe thatâs what you wanted anyway, I thought you were only trying to disable those from kmail.
Well, the Kmail ones disturbed me because they go on and on the whole day. Maybe some of the others are worthwhile. I think that warning a user that something very strange is happening is OK, but receiving mail is not such a thing. I rather like to have nothing then. But as long as the Kmail ones can not be switched off seperate, I rather like to live with non notifications at all.
The one Iâve been using for years is the âEnable system tray iconâ (with itâs associated Events messages and other things) but, it seems to me that, the âShow unread email in taskbarâ option is the better solution â simply a number which appears on the Taskbar Icon â no Event messages, no System Tray icon âŠ
