Is there anyway to play m4v files with picture and sound in SUSE 11?

I don’t think any of them are DRM. I downloaded them with Miro. Two are
from Hidden-Universe-HD—NASA-s-Spitzer-Space-Telescope and one is from
Hubblecast. I can hear them but I can’t see a picture. I had the same
problem with Mandriva so I switched to Linux Mint. Mint doesn’t have a
problem playing m4v. PCLOS plays them too. The problem is I like SUSE
better than Mint, PCLOS and Mandriva but SUSE doesn’t have as much
out-of-the-box multimedia stuff and so takes a lot more setting up to
make it a full multimedia desktop. VLC only does so much without the
right codecs.

Why do I use Suse.?
Well it does everything I want, it was traditionally kde, though gnome
feature highly too now. It has plenty of community support, not just in
the forum but maintainers and packagers like Packman. I have tried all
the distros you mention. PCLOS is great but support I would question.
Mint is just a rework of Ubuntu, but when I tried it is awsome. Mandriva
too excellent and kde!
You didn’t mention Fedora, I have used that in the past too, back at
F7.
Multi-media does not come out of the box with Suse, but it is no
problem to get it going. My advice would be don’t get down, stick with
the distro you most like, work at it. If you keep switching you never
become familiar enough with one to have a good understanding and grasp
of it.
Krusader is available in the kde4 repo. But you may have to use Factory
KDE4 Factory:

Right. I had a cogitate and I decided I’ll wait until 11.1 is finished.
With 11 I’d have to set up the 2 other internal hard drives I have and
install most of the multimedia stuff I need because it’s not installed
out of the box (not even from the DVD). I changed the resolution to 1280
x 1024 and the desktop moved to the left about an inch and although I
used the controls in the driver software to move it to the right it
doesn’t stay where I tried to put it.
SUSE KDE has great menus, lots of diagnostic stuff, a very
professional look, but it doesn’t have automounting like Mandriva, tons
of multimedia out of the box and an easy way to set up automounting like
Mint KDE does.
SUSE is a strange mix of some of the most advanced things I’ve seen in
any Linux distro but it has some glaring weaknesses for a first time
user that I’d only expect to find in Slackware or Debian.
Even the ubiquitous Ubuntu provides a more even experience for a first
time user. I don’t understand how SUSE became so uneven in the features
and tools it provides it’s users. It takes one from the heights of OSX
to the most intense CLI depths of Linux geekdom. SUSE is a roller
coaster ride for a newbie to Linux.
At the end of the day though none of that matters one wit. SUSE is an
excellent distro despite it’s glaring faults, which are few in number.
I’m very grateful so many people around the world donate so much of
their time and knowledge to create and maintain Linux distros, never
expecting any monetary remuneration for their considerable, seemingly
never ending efforts. Well done! Jolly good! Cheers!

Don’t know what Mint or Mandrive offer, but cd/dvd’s should be
automounted as well as USB sticks.
I always got my multimedia needs covered after installing fluendo for
mp3’s and SMPlayer for all videos (and I do watch tons of vids). The
MPlayer firefox plugin and Mplayer-Thumbs addon for Dolphin are nice to.

Don’t you get charged for using fluendo? I though the codecs from
fluendo have to be bought.
