how to log in openSUSE system via x-terminal from Windows?

I have a Solaris sytem and also an openSUSE 11 on my network.

From a Windows PC, I use an x-terminal software and I can see the hostname of the Solaris system, and I can log in that system via the x-terminal software.

What do I need to do on the openSUSE side, so that I can log in from Windows to that openSUSE system, using the x-terminal software?

Hi
You need to edit the /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager file to enable the
xdmcp settings, you will also need to allow the port open in the
firewall.

I altered /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, and changed

Display Manager Remote Access = yes

port 6000 open = yes

After rebooting the system, sitting at the Windows XP,
I was able to see the log-in screen of the OpenSUSE
system.

But after logging in, the openSUSE screen (from the x-terminal) just freezes.

Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Hi
Is the firewall still running? What client are you using to connect?

I use NX from nomachine for both solaris and linux for remote access
as all you need running is sshd.

I use XManager software.

The firewall on the openSUSE system is disabled.

Hi
Can you try NX, it is free

I just installed NX. It works fine with openSUSE.

The problem is that the graphics is not coming out correctly whenever I open up this 3rd-party graphical software (logging in remotely from a Windows XP computer).

This 3rd-party software’s graphics works fine if I opened it from the openSUSE side (but not through x-terminal from Windows).

Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi
Sounds like the font it’s using aren’t on the windows machine?

Have you installed the windows fonts on the openSUSE box?

Xming could also be a nice alternative to taking over the whole desktop.

Hi
Just had a look on the nomachine site and I see there are some font
add-ons for the client, maybe these will help?
