This assume you are using 11.3 - if not let me know
Click this: http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/Education/openSUSE_11.3/solfege.ymp?base=openSUSE%3A11.3&query=Solfege
software.opensuse.org: Search Results
Just install a standard distro package consider the implications of keeping enabled any repository that is not “Official” and choose wisely i.e education is likely to have a higher amount of users.
There is no need to download any tar ball, and I think you can delete the one you have.
Anyway Solfege appears to be in openSuSE’ Standard repositiories, so you don’t even need to add any new repositories. All you have to do is start YaST’s Software Management, then search for, and install Solfege.
And if something that you wish to intall is not in your configured repos, you can search for it here for example:
software.opensuse.org: Search Results
Or search for it via Webpin.

Solfege is in the standare openSUSE repository
you don’t have to even go look for a “tar” file…see, you are in new
universe now…back last century if you used the most popular brand
of operating system you had track down what you wanted at some unknown
web site, download it (and take the chance that it contained
bad-ware)…blah blah blah…
welcome to modern:
open YaST, click Software (on left) and Software Management (on
right)…and give it some “thinking time” (it goes out, finds an
active, safe, secure repository of openSUSE software) and soon up will
pop a search blank…type into ot solfege and click search…
then the list on the right will popup maybe just one thing, maybe
several, find solfege and right click it and select install…
then, at the bottom of that window click “Accept”…
YaST will then look around and see if it needs to add any other things
to support Solfege’s needs (called “dependencies”) if it asks if it
can install a list of things, just say Yes…
and soon Solfege will be all installed and ready to go…
welcome to modern, free, open software…
