Hello folks, I just left Vista 64 and entered the world of Linux and found OpenSuse 11 to be very awesome! One problem I downloaded from Softimage’s website XSI 7.0. I am logged into Root, and when I extract the tar-ball file I cant do anything, or I mean when I click on setup nothing, it brings up a dialog and asks “Open With”. Please folks I need some help in general on how to install apps. I even downloaded the new firefox and can’t even install that. Please Help!
Hi
What is the name of the file you are trying to run, it also needs to
be run from a terminal not by clicking on it?
Is there a file called README or INSTALL which should tell you what to
do.
Also it’s not advisable to be logged into a GUI session as root
You can open a terminal session and either use the sudo command or su to
root user if this is required.

Actually I dont see a readme or install just the following when extracted: cdinst.dat, lictools.tar.bz2, setup, SPM.tar.bz2. And as for logging in as root, do you mean going through the command line, or opening up a Konsole terminal. Because I have tried the terminal with no luck, but I was probably doing something wrong, I dont know, and I actually got firefox to work with out trying to hard, which was weird. Still cant get XSI lictools to install, or XSI itself which is pretty much the same ol thing as well.
Hi
Try running as your user first, from a terminal (konsole) cd to the
directory where the setup file is and try;
../setup
or
sh setup
