How to install Microchip XC8 compiler on OpenSuse leap 15.1 x64

Hi guys,

I decided to try OpenSuse as it seems better than ubuntu and I may need it for my job soon. I installed “KiCad” through a repository, this went smoothly and so far there are no problems with KiCad. When I try to install “Microchip xc.8.run” it becomes a really big problem. I tried all sorts of internet posts like this one yahoo following the down commands:

cd /home/user/Desktop/Microchip_XC8/
chmod 755 xc.run
./xc.run
bash: ./xc.run: No such file or directory /* This is not a command, its the result. */
sudo reboot
/***/

but it does not work, no matter how many times I try the result is “bash: ./xc.run: No such file or directory”. I tried with and without “init 3”. I don’t know how to do this part, could not find it on google and I think its not necessary except for the graphics drivers:

after logging out of your X session, log in again using “Failsafe” from the Session type (sub-)Menu.

I am certain that some step is missing, can you please give me the full list of steps, without missing any obvious ones.

Without actually running this myself, compilers generally are binary blobs…
You simply need to know where the binary is installed, then invoke it directly (add to PATH if necessary or you didn’t have the foresight to install in a location already in PATH)

I already tried this, thats the way to install it on “Ubuntu”, but it does not works on “OpenSuse” with error “no such file or directory”.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Looks like there is something amiss with the way the run file was setup, suggest you contact Microchip direct and ask to check/fix.

XDG_RUNTIME_DIR (/run/user/1000) gehört uns (Benutzerkennung 1001) nicht, sondern der Benutzerkennung 1000! Dies kann beispielsweise passieren, wenn Sie sich über das native Protokoll als Root-Benutzer mit einem ohne Root-Rechte betriebenen PulseAudio-Server verbinden wollen. Sie sollten dies nicht tun.
