I am trying to install GNOME from KDE in openSUSE 10.1.
I searched the forums, and all are mentioning this can be done by checking gnome-desktop in Yast2>software management>left side filter choice pattern>left side. But when I did this I just couldn’t find that checkbox. In fact there are only two checkboxs in the Desktop section: Minimal Graphical Install and KDE, I cannot find the gnome-desktop there.
Could you please advise how can I install GNOME then?
If yes, install something still supported, SuSE Linux 10.1 (openSUSE 10.1 does not exist, the first distribution called openSUSE was 10.2 or 10.3) is dead for more than a year now.
(And if it is SuSE 10.1 it is no surprise you don’t find this pattern, which was introduced later.)
Thank you Akoellh. I really don’t have any idea of the version of SUSE. I am pretty new to it. Here is some infomation I have:
:/etc # cat SuSE-release
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (i586)
VERSION = 10
PATCHLEVEL = 1
So this is not OpenSUSE, right? I tried the command 'su -c “zypper in -t pattern gnome” ', but it gives the following output:
cnshexiahan:/mnt/cdrom/suse/i586 # su -c “zypper in -t pattern gnome”

BTW, I don’t know how to upgrade my SUSE to a newer version as in Ubuntu. I have lots of data on the disk which I don’t what to lose during the upgrading.
