more info is required before help is possible…

are there install instructions given in a file on the “media disk”?

what are the full contents and sizes of files on the “media disk”? is
there no file on it named README or INSTALL or something similar?

are any of the files on it with the extension .rpm or tar.gz or what?

did your professor give no hints?

What about the gnu gfortran compiler which comes with the opensuse
distribution? Is it not suitable for you?

openSUSE 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.50GHz | KDE 4.5 | GeForce
9600 GT | 4GB Ram
openSUSE 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Duo T9300@2.50GHz | KDE 4.5 | Quadro FX
3600M | 4GB Ram

Probably you need to describe what you want to do.
Fortran is a programming language. Are you writing code in Fortran? - If so, then Martin’s suggestion might be appropriate.

A quick search suggests the LIC file is only a license file and not actual code, try opening it in a text viewer to verify.
