How to install Firefox ?

Firefox has been treating me like a ******* step-child and I have been trying to straighten him out.

This is where I am so far and why I did what I did.
Oh yeah, I installed Chrome so I could post.

Anyway, Firefox I think was causing me to lock-up or endless loops, again I say I think.
The last straw was when I tried to come here and ask for help and Firefox would not launch. Nothing would happen so then I installed Chrome and here I am.

So, I thought why not uninstall it and do a reinstall.
I went into Yast and unchecked or red “x” everything to do with Mozilla. There were a couple of what looked like conflict messages and I did the best I could figure out.

So after the uninstall I thought I would try an install. Well surprise to me that all the Mozilla* stuff is still checked and if I press “accept”, nothing happens. Yast2 closes and throws me back to Yast. It looks like it is telling me that it is already installed.

So can someone please tell me how to remove and reinstall Firefox.

Also, is there a way to reinstall openSuse 12.3 without messing up what I already have. Sorta like Windows used to let you do.

And is there a way to make an openSUSE rescue disk ? That might not be the correct term but I would like to have a CD with my openSUSE 12.3 on it that I could use to restore to my hard disk. I have openSUSE 12.3 live (64).

In Yast software management, right click on the item. There should be a choice to “update unconditionally”. I think that reinstalls. Well, it will update to a newer version if there is one, otherwise it should reinstall the current version.

Your firefox problem might be with your settings.
Try, in a terminal:


mv .mozilla OLD.mozilla

You should make sure that firefox is not running before you try that. The result will be that firefox will be completely reconfigured from scratch when you next start it.

I was confused when I was looking in Yast when I saw mozilla thunderbird and I mistook it for mozilla firefox. Yeah, I know, very dumb.

Well, I redid the firefox install and it is off and running and I like it a lot better than chrome. Now to get rid of chrome.

Oh yeah, I plan to reinstall thunderbird hoping against hope that it will get to be faster.
