How to install additional fonts

Is it possible to install additional fonts on openSUSE 11.0 (TrueType & Open)?
If so, how can one do so?

You can install a couple of font types from YaST. Some TrueType font are available on Packman Package Repository. Here is the list of available repositories: Package Repositories - openSUSE.
The another way is: you can download font types from example: 1001 Free Fonts - Download Free Fonts - Free Windows and Mac Fonts, and install them, by clicking to it. In the new window press install.

You didn’t mention what desktop environment you are using. So I am guessing it is KDE. From ‘K Menu’ goto ‘Personal Settings’ then ‘System Administration’ and use ‘Font Installer’.

Hope I guessed right and make it understandable. Sorry, if I was wrong.

In KDE 3.5 Go to Control Centre > System Administration > Font Installer and enter the Administrator Mode and click add fonts (obviously you will need to have the font files)

Actually am using gnome as default, but have KDE 3.x base & apps installed as well…is there a method for font installation from gnome?
If installed thro’ the KDE method as above, will the fonts be applied to the entire system (i.e. gnome or other desktops & all apps (such as OO.org, F’fox, etc)?

Is there any way to retrieve the fonts from Windows & install them on Linux (openSUSE 11.0)?

  1. Install them from GNOME! Howto here: Installing TTF Fonts in GNOME - LinuxQuestions.org.

  2. Actually I’m not using windows, but maybe you have some directory like \WINDOWS\Fonts with many of TTFs (just copy out the TTF file), you can install these fonts under Linux.

ps.: If you want to change the font type in application (like Firefox, OpenOffice), you need to change them somewhere in you personal settings (in KDE… wait for one GNOME Guru :), I can’t help in this.)
