I’m a complete newbie to Linux, just installed my first Linux operating system, openSUSE 11.2 on my laptop.Having trouble finding anything online on how to install a mouse for openSUSE 11.2. Any guides, or can anyone tell me how to do it please?
You mean you have plugged it in and is not working?
Plug it in. It should just work unless you have something strange and wonderful.
Something “strange and wonderful” here, or rather not so wonderful as the mouse cursor doesn’t respond to either a USB or PC2 mouse when installing oSuse 11.2 from the first screen on the CD. Mouse does respond when booting “live” from that same screen on the CD. From a live boot, the installation icon on the desktop leads into a configuration and starts to Perform Installation; full installatin was achieved only when “Firmware Test” was typed into the boot option line.
The desktop machine had been running SLES 10 for about a year: AMD Duron cpu on an older MicroTel MB, with an Award BIOS from 2002.
Earlier had tried the suggestions given under “Boot Options” by typing in acpi-off, apm=off, and subcategories, in various combinations, on the Boot Options line. I don’t see menu options from the main menu for these commands.
Should have reported earlier: when the USB mouse is not responding, unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again almost always gets it working.
