How to get rid of the KDE3 konqueror under KDE4

Strange issue… installed kde4-konqueror caused I noticed that my konqueror looked like the old kde3 one.
After the installation it doesn’t show up in the launcher menu when searching for ‘konqueror’, didn’t show up under browsers either.
So I looked up where the file to start it was hiding in YaST software management… it shows me :/usr/share/applications/kde4/konqbrowser.desktop. Add that entry manually to the launcher menu… and it still starts up the KDE3 version.

So I look up ‘konq’ in yast software management and uninstall everything that it lets me uninstall (that’s everything besides kdebase4-libkonq and libkonq5 as Dolphin requires both of them, and I need a file manager).
So with nearly everything konqueror uninstall I look up konqueror in the launcher menu and the KDE3 version still shows up… what gives? How do I get rid of it as it seems to prevent me from using the KDE4 version and even if it didn’t, I’ve no need for 2 konquerors.

This is what I currently have with the seemingly unremoveable KDE3 version of konqueror that I’d like to get rid of.

[edit]:
Always forget… using KDE 4.2 from the factory repository / openSUSE 11.1 x86_64.

Hope we’re on the same page here. I have

dean@linux:~> rpm -qa |grep konqueror
kde4-konqueror-plugins-lang-4.1.3-27.13
kde4-konqueror-plugins-4.1.3-27.13
kde4-konqueror-4.1.3-58.2
kdeaddons3-konqueror-3.5.10-5.6

Edit: Are you saying that konqueror (KDE3 version) still launches in KDE4 environment?

Just fired up KDE4.2 (I still prefer KDE3) and opened a console. If I launch konqueror from CLI, I get the KDE4 version. If I do

cd /opt/kde3/bin/
konqueror

then the KDE3 version launches (as expected).

But kdeaddons3-konqueror isn’t installed anyway according to YAST - at least
not on my system.

Oh bother! Now my task bar has vanished again. Ctrl-alt-del here we come.

Here we are again after removing .kde4 and trying to get everything I needed
back in. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, I found that the KDE3 version of Konqueror is embedded in the KDE3
base system. That’s why YAST can’t find it on a search for “Konqueror”.

What I did was to go into YAST, select “patterns” and remove the KDE3 base
system! A bit drastic and a few things got lost along the roadside, such as
Amarok, but I’ll wait to see if I need any of it. I checked the “Kickoff
Application Launcher” and found that the KDE3 versions of Konqueror had
gone. I then tried un-installing and then re-installing the KDE4 version but
it didn’t get put in the menu.

It seemed the only way to get KDE4 Konqueror in KAL was to to it by hand.
The command for the KDE3 version was “kfmclient openProfile filemanagement”.
Using this same command launched the KDE4 version. I note that the command
for the super-user mode is “konqueror -profile filemanagement”. As far as I
can see these commands do the same thing - but someone more knowledgeable
about the arcane wonders of Linux commands than me may say different - and
the only thing making it suoer-user is that in the “advanced” tab, “run as a
different user” is ticked.

If you don’t want the fun and games I’ve had, I suspect that using “menu
edit” for KAL and adding Konqueror with the full route specifiedin the
command. I haven’t tried this myself. Didn’t think I’d have as much fun as
dumping KDE3.
