How to fix file and DE default application linking?

This has been happening since I changed from using Gnome to KDE Plasma.
For example, Firefox’s file chooser dialog uses GTK instead of Dolphin. Latte Dock Application Dashboard widget opens containing folders when searching files in Nautilus instead of Dolphin. Again, Firefox opens compressed files in File Roller instead of Ark…

In kde settings ( the gui ) go in Application -> File Associations and you should be able to change the application preference order.

For the file picker in firefox maybe you could fix your problem by changing some values in about:config ( see 4.5 KDE integration : Firefox - ArchWiki ), worth a try.

Thank you, that helped.

Just to be clear, you’ve been running TW with GNOME as your DE, then “suddenly” switched to using KDE as the DE??

If Yes, then I’m not surprised. After all … all the associations have been established while you were using GNOME and it’s apps and infrastructure, and those associations are established in your user account.

Or did you reinstall TW from scratch to make the KDE switch… or did you create a brand new user account AFTER you switched to use KDE??

Yes, I just switched to KDE and there were a few hiccups with some configurations shared between Gnome and KDE for the desktop like font sizing and UI scaling.
