Howdy,
When home I plug my good speakers into my laptop; when away I use a Tritton Sound Bite - awsome little gizmo for the price (I paid less than $30), great volume from usb power and great sound quality compared to laptop speakers.
When I set the usb device as default in yast, I can't adjust volume or play a test sound. I'm cool with having the onboard sound as the default, though, as long as I can select the other.
In Amarok, xine engine can't detect the sound bite. However it allows manual setting under oss driver to /dev/dsp or dev/sound/dsp; no option for dsp1 (which is the usb device). I don't have a /dev/sound directory, but I can create one and put a simlink in it, named dsp and pointing to /dev/dsp1. Voila! Beautiful sound from the gizmo. And I can still select /dev/dsp to switch back to onboard speakers, simple.
Which brings me to the question. The dev/sound directory is no persistent. I'm no linux pro; where do I add the command to create the simlink automatically on startup?
Thanks in advance,
GEF
