How to enable root on aspire one

Yep, another aspire one question. Whenever I try to install a program which needs to create a folder etc (for example when using eclipse it needs to create a project folder) I find I don’t have permission. I think this may be because I’m not always logged in as the root?

But basically, I can’t create folders, save existing files etc through other programs. Is anybody having the same problem/can anybody help me?

in case it wasn’t obvious, my netbook runs xfce, and I have unlocked the ‘advanced’ right click menu

what operating system and desktop environment are you running?
how are you trying to install? i mean, if you are running openSUSE
11.1 and KDE4.x you should be installing with YaST, and it will ASK
you for your root pass and then have all the permissions it needs…

never log into KDE or Gnome as root…always log in as a normal user
and then become root as and when required…many ways to do that…see
