Dolphin does not display thumbnails for hevc videos in Kalpa. VLC doesn’t play the videos, but any video player from Flathub does. This still leaves videos without thumbnails, though. How can I fix this?
Which multimedia codecs did you install from where?
Yes, they have their own codecs included.
Dolphin is not aware of the codecs installed via Flathub, so you need to install in the system ffmpeg and its dependencies from Packman or VLC repos.
Thanks, how would I do that on Kalpa?
I didn’t install any.
Sorry, my bad. I missed the Kalpa-Tag and my first thought was that you probably need the multimedia codecs from VLC or Packman.
As I don’t really have a clue of Kalpa: Isn’t it kind of relying on Flatpaks? Would a flatpak version of dolphin show the thumbnails?
PS: If I would have noticed the Kalpa tag, I wouldn’t have replied ![]()
Kalpa: unsupported-install-methods states that Packman is not supported and I guess that Videolan should be the same.

If you absolutely need the video thumbnails maybe Kalpa is not for you and you may be better off installing Tumbleweed or Slowroll.
Or install the flatpak version of dolphin(?) “org.kde.dolphin”…
The recent thread about Japanese IMEs opened my eyes to just how many things can be installed as Flatpaks. It’s impressive!
