How to discover the colour depth I'm using

Hi I have KDE in openSUSE 11.3 64 bit and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series video card
and these drivers:

Driver: “radeon”
Driver Modules: “drm”
XFree86 v4 Server Module: radeonhd

I suspect it’s caught in low res colour. How do I find what resolution color I’m running, and how do I adjust it if it is low?

Hello swerdna

In /var/log/Xorg.0.log i have
18.752] (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:

Its from a nvidia card but you should have the same for a ati card

Altering your color depth in /etc/X11 with a xorg.conf file made with nvidia-config in 11.1 is the line DefaultDepth 24

I found the line containing "Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp"in the file you mentioned, so no need to alter it.

Thank you
