My laptop is configured to use the external monitor only. The monitor of laptop itself has been disabled. But when I turned off the external monitor and reboot the laptop, the monitor of my laptop is still disabled. Why didn’t opensuse detect this situation and disable dual monitor automatically? How can I enable the laptop’s monitor without turning on the external monitor?
Hi,
most laptops I know have a function key to switch the displays. Have you tried that?

This a just guess when using KDE:
Go to KDE-Settings => Monitor and select your Notebook-Screen as default (LVDS for example). This should give KDE the hint for a fallback in case you disconnected your monitor.
And make sure, you really disconnect the display! If you have it connected but switched off, the monitor will always be still recognized by the hardware.
Try kasi’s idea. If it’s not working look, post your notebook-name and look for an additional package for your notebook-model (for instance, I needed eeepc-acpi-scripts for older kernels on my system).
Our openSUSE 13.1 is being released next month.
A new feature in KDE4 called KScreen is now available in KDE4.11 that will allow you to configure the extra monitor.
Good Luck!

i had a somehow similar problem and it was solved by unplugging the second monitor before i restart my laptop again. when suse starts i plug the monitor and it is recognized automaticly. I even have sound by the laptop speakers with the laptop screen toggled as primary output. (using opensuse 13.1)
