How to disable ATI module on 12.1 3.1.10 ?

Hello !

I’m using openSUSE 12.1 64 bit with Kernel version 3.1.10 on a HP Envy 14 Beats Edition, with Radeon HD6630 and Intel HD 3000 graphics. OpenSUSE is doing quite well but i’ve got a problem with overheating and battery management. The battery on a power-saver mode lasts only for 2:30 h , on Windows it’s more than 4 hours. I found couple of tips on a website :

Andreas Demmer

This guy was able to improve his performance and work for 4 hours. He claims that, battery life improves after disabling ATI adapter which is working even on power-saver mode with intel card. He’s using a command :

echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

Unfortunately vgaswitcheroo is not coming with this system/kernel versions. Do you have any ideas how to install it , or disable ati adapter in the other way ?

Thanks in advance !

Greg

You should be able to choose which graphics you want to use from your BIOS. I have a laptop that also had an ATI and Intel graphics. The ATI chip stopped functioning and I had to force my laptop to Intel graphics from the BIOS.

I switched graphic card hybrid option from dynamic to fixed, but it didn’t helped. The laptop is still hot in the area where ATI Adapter is located. Is there any way to install vgaswitcheroo on Suse 12.1 ?
