When I try to connect to my Wi-Fi network on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and type in my password, it sends me to type in another password in KDE wallet. I’m new to Linux so I have no idea why I need to put a password into KDE Wallet or even what it does. Could anyone help me out here?
KWallett is a global password manager, so when you type in the password in kwallet, you have only 1 password and other passwords for wlan or mail are stored in the wallet and will be inserted to the programs automatically
It seems that you did not have created a password for Kwallet, because you are surprised by that question. I am not sure, but thus it may be empty. Try if an empty password helps.
I assume that you use NetworkManager fo manage the Wifi. I do not use that myself, but as far as I know you can configure NM so that it does not use Kwallet.
If you do not want to use a (this) password manager at all you can disable it in KDE system settings. Enter “system settings” in the search bar of KDE start menu, go to Personalization - Account Details - uncheck “Enable the KDE wallet subsystem”.
One more thing: As KDE wallet was mentioned - this is a program on user level. If you want to enable WiFi at boot you should check “all users can connect to this network” in the Network Manager applet "general settings of your connection. To enable this you will have to enter the root password (root = system administrator). In that case I assume the user’s password manager would be avoided anyway.
Will pam_kwallet solve this? Is there a reason not to use pam_kwallet? It may have had problems in the past.
