How to configure Novell Netware Mars with multiple network adapters on openSuse 11.4 ?

Hello,

I am unable to configure MARSNWE with multiple network adapters on x86-64-bit openSuse11.4.

A scenario with a one network adapter works fine. Sections 3 & 4 from nwserv.conf file :

3 0x0a141e8d
4 0x11 eth1 802.3 1 # setup ethernet with frame 802.3
4 0x12 eth2 802.3 1 # setup ethernet with frame 802.3
4 0x13 eth3 802.3 1 # setup ethernet with frame 802.3

As a result I am getting :

cat /proc/net/ipx/interfaces:

Network Node_Address Primary Device Frame_Type
00000011 00199998CAB2 Yes eth1 802.3
00000012 0019999DF6BA No eth2 802.3
00000013 0019999DF6BB No eth3 802.3

with a ‘slist’ of a client directly connected to 0x11 :

Known NetWare File Servers Network Node Address

TEST 00000011 00199998CAB2

and ‘slist’ of clients connected to 0x12, 0x13 :

slist: Server not found (0x8847) in ncp_open

It would be really great if somebody sends me any information how to setup Mars with multiple network cards or help me in any way.

Regards,
D.

What version of openSUSE and mars-nwe are you using?

Have you confirmed that Ethernet_802.3 frame types are used on the
clients on all three networks?

What happens if you change the order of the networks in section 4 of the
configuration file? (It looks like the primary network is being found,
so changing the order should - I guess - move the primary network).

IPX server services typically sent a SAP packet every 60 seconds - have
you given those two networks enough time for the server to advertise its
presence? (I’m guessing yes, but if I don’t ask, that’s what’ll end up
being the problem <g>).

Another tip that I’ve found is that even if only IPX is used on multiple
interfaces, you have to assign an IP address to each interface.

(You’ll need to translate from German, but this is where I’m finding
information that might help you)

Thank you guys for your help and advices.

IP’s are assigned to every single network card so that is definitely not a reason.
As clients I am using regular openSuse 10.x and NWDOS+NWclient.

Basically, problems started after a migration from openSuse 10.3 to 11.x (x86_64) version - we haven’t found any stable MARS solution with multiple adapters.

Thank you again,
D.

You might drop a note to the mars-nwe author as well - he might well have
seen this before and have some ideas.
