how to configure fn+key combination

hi all

is there a way to to correctly configure the fn+key configuration strokes?

my problem is that some combination like fn+num lk and numpad works but not the multimedia for example mute, reduce/increase sound.

could somebody help please?

thanks

Hi!
I have same problems. With the Fn key works only the screen brightness.
Mute, inc, dec volumed only worked under Gnome, not in KDE.

On my Dell Studio 15 laptop, now running openSUSE-11.1 RC1, the fn+keys “just worked” on KDE-3.5.10 and KDE-4.1.3. Hence I never had to troubleshoot, and I never had to learn anything special to set this up.

But IF I did know something (which I do not) I suspect I would want you to tell me:

  • your PC’s openSUSE version
  • your PC’s desktop (ie KDE? Gnome? xfce ?
  • your PC’s desktop version ? ie KDE-3.5.9 or KDE-3.5.10 or KDE-4.0.4 or KDE-4.1.2 … etc …
  • your Laptop’s make/manufacturer

I’m sure that is all intuitively obvious to you, but for someone who might or might not have information to help you, its impossible to know unless you provide the information.

That depends largely on your hardware.

On some notebooks (I guess you are talking about a notebook) some or
all keys work out of the box, for some there is special software to
make some more or all of them work, and some won’t work at all with
anything except Microsoft Windows-Of-The-Day, no matter what you try.
