how to configure d link router di-704up in suse

can somebody plz help me to configure my router in suse it a d link di-704up

What problems are you having? I just installed a new dlink DIR615 and there was no setup. It just worked. There are some settings you can apply, but what version of opensuse are you using?

i cant use it to get online the wan light and status light just keep flashing "??

Flashing lights usually mean data transmission, in other words, the thing is working.

You didn’t say which version of opensuse and which desktop you use. That will make a difference. Recently, knetworkmanager has been a problem. I get connected to the internet by typing

ifup eth1

at a command prompt. Then try starting firefox.

open suse 11.0 and kde 4.0 so anyone got any idea how i can use the router becuz i’ll need to be adding another machine to the network soon if someone could teach me how to set it up that’d be great …
much appreciated thnx pplz oh

to get online you use the command ifup eth1 ?? do you need to do that if your nic is configured to start on system boot or for startup upon cable connection ?

The manual for your router is located here:

I always set it for start on system boot. Here are some things that might get you going.

Go into yast–>Network Devices–>Network settings

Make sure your wireless card is highlighted and click on the tab marked Global Options. In the top section, make sure “traditional method with ifup” is selected. Click “Finish” to get out. If this doesn’t help, you can go back through the steps and select “User controlled with NetworkManager.”

Now go into a terminal and type “ifup eth1” (but don’t use the quote marks) and then “iwconfig” to see if the router is seen.

When I did this, and I got to this point, Firefox connected to the internet for me. Don’t forget that the problem may not be in your router setup but in you wireless card itself. That is where most people are having problems and there dozens of threads here you can search for answers.
