I want to be able to mark the question as [Solved] so others can benefit.
I also want to be able to add rep to the person who helped.

In short: you can’t. We don’t mark threads that way. What may work for you may not work for someone else.
You can add to the reputation of a member by clicking on the STAR below his/her post.
Last I checked,
You can change the Subject line in your reply, which should modify how the thread appears in the Forum message list.
But, hardly anyone does that…
There is no convention to mark threads solved or not, it’s generally assumed that except in very rare cases every issue is solved… Isn’t that a utopia?
