How to change profile defaults

When I wish to post a message on the forum I sometimes forget to select “email replies instantly.” How can I set my preference in my profile so that this setting defaults to this rather than having to select every time. I note that other forums do this so it may be I cannot find the setting here.

Under Settings, (My Account) General Settings, there is “Default Thread Subscription Mode:”, you can set it from there. Disclaimer, I’ve not tried it;)

Settings -> My Account -> General Settings in section “Messaging and Notifications” -> Default Thread Subscription Mode drop down to select this option.
