How to change from KDE to Gnome?

I have a good working Suse 11.3, KDE installation but it seems there is no way to change display resolution so it stays changed after a re-boot. I tried all the suggestions posted on the subject to no avail. On another HD, I did an install using Gnome and it has no problem retaining a display resolution change!

Can my KDE installation be changed to a Gnome?

You can install Gnome alongside KDE and thereafter log in to a Gnome Desktop. Gnome’s in Yast Software Management → View → Patterns

Install gnome

You should ideally switch to the gnome display and window manager

Then remember you can switch between kde and gnome at the login screen
