You should be able to do this easily with NetworkManager … if you click on its icon then your wireless network name should be shown (if it’s broadcast). if it isn’t then you’ll need to ‘choose other network’ and enter in the network name manually.
I am new here and as a result I don’t know where it is (yes, I searched it). I use openSuse 12.1 with Gnome 3.2.1.
If you look near the top right of the screen, there’s an icon that looks like something radiating upward. That’s the network manager icon. Click on that to see what is happening with wifi.
If your computer is a desktop, it is possible that the initial configuration is set to used fixed networking defined in Yast. If that’s your situation, then you might have to change that to access the network manager settings.
There is no icon in the panel. I only a human icon with some hotkey options, a sound icon and a battery icon. RIght clicking on panel doesn’t do anything. I tried to change that in my dconf settings but the gnome-panel locked down option was not enabled.
Also, my pc is a laptop.
Open Yast, select “Network Devices” then “Network Settings”.
If it tells you that the network is controlled by NetworkManager, then you should be seeing an icon up near the battery and sound.
If it shows you the network devices, then click on the “Global Options” tab, and select “User Controlled with Network Manager”. Then click “OK” at the bottom right.
Thank you VERY much my friend. I finally have wireless
