Also, adding and removing software is probably more-similar than you
realize. Go to the Computer menu and then click on YaST. This is
basically the main system-level control area. There is also 'Control
Center which is made more for regular users and will also tie into the
system settings when needed. As long as you have your repositories setup
properly (you probably have one, at least, by default) adding and removing
software is a cinch.

Good luck.

i reached on to system->install software in the computer menu…A window appeared…which displayed the list of softwares…in the search bar, when typed VLC nothing came back…??

Because you did not read the link in Post #2.
First add the repo, then install from it.

Hello,

You must first add the *VideoLan *repository to your system. To do this open “yast2”. In the “Software” section select the “Software Repositories” application. When its window appears select the “Add” button at the bottom of the dialog box. There a list appears. You can select “Community repositories” and “Next”. In the list that appears afterwards you will find the “VideoLan” repository. Select it and add it into your system. Another way is to select “Specify URL” from the list (instead of Community Repositories") and type in the name field the name “VideoLan” and in the URL field the: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/11.1/
and “next”. After you finish this application, you can start the “Software Management” again. Then you will be able to find the vlc player.

Please do not use the Videolan repo for anything else, than libdvdcss. Install that one from the Videolan repo, than remove that repo and add the Packman repo from the Community repos. Packman contains VLC as well and everything to play any kind of media files.
