Zero. I guess I’m not sure about the question (??). Microsoft
will tell you the correct answer is ONE.
Did you post your question to the right forum?
I’ll admit, if you’ve sold out your corporate IT to Microsoft,
then you really don’t have a choice… again, why even ask
the question??
(I’m confused)
I am reading about how to use Samba, and in the chapter 4 of The Official Samba 3.2.x HOWTO and Reference Guide there are explanations about how to setup a samba server as a domain controler, Thanks to swernas site I can now setup openSUSE as a workgroup file server, so I think the next step would be set up samba as a PDC, but at what point is necessary to have one?, I don
t need to set up one, but I am curiuos and would like some opinions.

Easgs;
Samba 3 can act as a PDC (Primary Domain Controler) for a NT style network but
not an AD. Running a PDC is not so much a matter of size as it is features.
A Domain can provide a central/common log on environment, roaming profiles,
and a trust relation between the machines on your network. In particular, a
user can log on to any client and have all their documents and settings
available.

Easgs;
Actually a good HowTo can be found here:
http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/
This is Samba-3 by Example and is also in the Samba docs installed in:
/usr/share/doc/packages/samba provided you install the Samba doc rpm.
Another good site is:
http://www.pcc-services.com/sles/samba.html
The above is written for SLES but for the most part applies equally well to
Opensuse.
