If you want to disable the graphical mode, change this symlink:

/etc/systemd/system/default.target -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/runlevel3.target

(or multi-user.target, it is the same one).

I you just want to use text mode temporarily, then just pres ctrl-alt-f1 (or f2, or f3… f6).
And same with f7 to return to graphical mode.

… if you mean you want to temporarily boot straight to a terminal, then when the Grub menu comes up hit “e” for edit, scroll down to the line that starts with the word “linux”, hit END to go to the end of the line, add a space and the numeral “3” at the end, hit F10 to continue booting.

If you mean AFTER you have booted and are sitting at the login screen, or you have exited X, there are a few options. Start with those mentioned by Carlos.

hi,

at the KDM login screen, instead of entering the password,
has the terminal login been tried from the pull down menu?

more precisely, at the KDM login screen, instead of entering the password,

I do not see any red text here. nntp.

Then, when pasting computer commands and such, please use a CODE BLOCK,
so that the forum software doesn’t do silly things like converting URLS
to tiny urls, parenthesis into smileys, wrap lines, or otherwise hide or
alter the commands you entered. You get them by clicking on the ‘#’
button in the forum editor. See
photo

And use no color, bold, or any such features inside, please.

Do not edit /boot/grub2/grub.cfg, as what you change will be deleted
automatically. Fraser Bell told you something different, during grub start.

NO!

He said «add a space and the numeral “3” at the end», not replace the
entire line.

If you do what you propose, and in the place you propose, your system
will be unbootable and difficult to repair.

KDM is one of the possible programs that present you with a graphical
display where you enter name and password, and choose the desktop to
use. It is of course an X program, automatically installed and configured.

No, sorry, I’m not fluent on adding entries to grub2. With grub1, yes,
but that is deprecated.

> also ask i dont know where is symlink and how/where/what file work ok? or there is a documentation for symlink opensuse?

Sorry, no, I will not explain how to do “symlinks” >:-)

If you want to place your system in text, terminal mode, you already
have to know the basics about Linux/Unix usage. Symlinks are just one of
those things. If you do not know your way in CLI (command line) then you
should stick to graphic mode.

See “man ln” (ln -s) for the documentation.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand that sentence. It is not grammatically
correct, and English is not my first language. Perhaps somebody else
can. :-?

Maybe you mean that you did not know that you had to use code-tags for
posting files and commands? That’s ok, most newcomers do not know and we
have to tell them. The intention was not to inculpate you or some thing,
just to tell you what we needed in order to better help you

What we are telling you is NEVER edit grub.cfg. Not now, not later, not
ever. So no, I’m not going to tell you what to change there, that’s not
the way.

Fraser gave you instructions for some thing you do directly on the first
screen at boot, after bios memory check and such, before Linux starts
loading.

If you still don’t understand it, I’ll try to post a photo later. Now I
have to do some errands.

Yes. But not in the grub.cfg file. At boot display. And it is not
permanent, just for this boot.

Did you read what the file says on the first paragraph:

Then WHY do you edit that file?

Text mode grub (no plymouth).

Main grub 2 display on opeSUSE 13.1

Press “e” to edit. Then you see this, just go down with the cursor till you see a line that starts with the word “linux”.
Then go to the end of that line and add a single “3” without quotes.

grub2 oS13.1, adding 3 to linux line

Then F10 to boot…

No. I was talking about when booting, when the grub menu comes up, and then doing what I said.

But, in your above example, it should be changed to:

linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.11.10-21-desktop root=UUID=877ec126-8d68-4256-b23b-7ec3a60dbda3 resume=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-OCZ-VERTEX3_OCZ-5SXX8ZTZ6N8J2O3P-part2 splash=silent quiet showopts 3

The “3” is added at the end of the full command.
