How do you get rid of the trash...

…icon from the desktop? I got it added to the lower panel, and somethin’ about trash - just don’t go on the desktop…

And in order to keep rookie questions to a minimum, where’s the package manager, to euthanize the ‘beagle’ indexer?

    • load the Gnome Configuration Editor (similar to Windows Registry Editor)
      it should be under Applications > System Tools > Configuration Editor
    • dig down to the section /apps/nautilus/desktop
      and enable the “Trash_icon_visible” checkbox

Stole this from a forum on how to restore (vs. remove) the Trash icon.
Change the last step, obviously, to do the opposite. You can load
gconf-editor directly if you’d prefer that to going through menus to get
to the configuration editor.
