Hi, I decided on Opensuse Tumbleweed because it was the best experience I’ve had so far in Plasma. I installed the latest snapshot tumbleweed iso yesterday, but the system didn’t have any immediate updates after I installed it. The system is on Plasma 5.3.95, and one of the main reasons I installed Tumbleweed was to try the latest version 5.4. I tried using zypper dup and zypper up, but I don’t think it found any updates to install. I’m pretty sure OS Tumbleweed has 5.4, am I missing something/doing something wrong?
The latest snapshot does contain Plasma 5.4, and 5.3.95 never was in Tumbleweed anyway. (Tumbleweed is supposed to be stable, and 5.3.95 was the Beta version)
How are you determining the Plasma version?
If it’s KInfocenter, then ignore it. This reads the version number from the file /usr/share/xsessions/plasma5.desktop, which has been forgotten to be updated in this regard, i.e. it contains the wrong version number. But otherwise everything should be fine and at 5.4.0.
Run e.g. this to get the real version number of Plasma:
plasmashell -v
The latest snapshot does contain Plasma 5.4, and 5.3.95 never was in Tumbleweed anyway. (Tumbleweed is supposed to be stable, and 5.3.95 was the Beta version)
I noticed that as well. Thanks for explanation.
I noticed it yesterday, and fixed it in my packages.
I will submit the fix to the official packages too of course, but at the moment the repo is not published because the update to 5.4.1 is being prepared, and it will take a while anyway until the fix is in Tumbleweed.
Thanks man, this makes sense. That command showed I’m on 5.4.
PS: I submitted a fix to the official packages: the current version number is now written into that file during the package build, so it will not be able to happen any more that updating this is being forgotten, and it should always be correct in the future.
You’ll get the fixed file with the update to 5.4.1.
