How do I temporarily change screen resolution?

I have OpenSUSE 11 installed on a MSI Wind and since it’s only a 10 inch screen I set the resolution to a very low resolution.
At times though I hook it up to a 22 inch monitor through it’s VGA port but everything appears too big though because of the resolution.
I assume I can’t just use different resolution through the VGA port. Is there a way I can have two resolutions set up on OpenSUSE 11 so I can switch to a higher resolution whenever I’m using the external monitor?

$ xrandr

Example (from available options in previous command):
$ xrandr --size 1280x1024

If you’re running KDE you might like a small app named KRandtray, which lets you change screen-resolution and frequency via an applet in your systray.
