How do i take a screenshot of the current wayland server from a shh/tty?

how do i take a screenshot of the current Wayland server from a shh/tty?
all of the asnwers on google are broken for me, if it helps the system I am accessing is on tumbleweed, wayland, plasma6.

@40476 use fbcat

@malcolmlewis its blank.

@malcolmlewis I have also tried this other app that did the same thing, additionally I remember this happening when i tried to use an app the used x11 instead of wayland while wayland was active, this yielded the same behavior. What is the solution here?

@40476 Try the wrapper fbgrab, but I suspect there needs to be a special tool for this… Why not use the normal desktop tools?

can you do it without user interaction?

@40476 that depends on the desktop environment and it’s tools available. With GNOME sure…

This computer has KDE on it, and I did try gnome-screenshot (or whatever it’s called) but I dont remember it working, additionally wayshot also does not work. Something about being unable to connect to a compositor even though I set the environment variables. (notify-send and ffplay do work when you set the display variable though, so I dont know.) Really all im trying to do is take a screenshot without any user interaction from a tty session (ssh.)

@40476 wayshot is for wlroots. What about the default Plasma screenshot utility, it should offer command line options?

This is for KDE 5. Is spectacle still used in KDE 6?

man spectacle

Yes, spectacle is in kde6 (than god since I use it literally every day), I will not be able to to test anything until I get home today, just an FYI. (Roughly 4-5 PM)

Also I accidentally read “ssh/tty” as sh***y, this is the 4th time now :rofl:

Maybe something wrong withe the brain? AI involved?

just checked, spectacle cannot be run without prompting the user.

I am using ssh to take a screenshot of the current Wayland session, and I swear I have tried everything I can think of.

So it really just seems like a security thing then, well, this is the first time the security of linux has caused me problems, so, Task failed successfully?
