I haven’t used this application for many years apart from checking that
there’s nothing in the calendar. However, I’m still getting reminders of
events that were in the calendar years ago. I assume the zombies are
still in the Akonadi database so how can I get rid of them?

Fraser, Calendars and to-do lists have been empty for years. As I said,
I can only assume that Akonadi has the old items and the calendars being
empty have had no effect.
Simon, I’ll try removing PIM as that seems the logical choice. I don’t
recall trying that before which I find a tad annoying.
This has become more of an annoyance since installing TW as it now
occurs almost every other day whereas I only used to see the reminders
once immediately after a new installation of Leap, say, and they’d not
be seen again until I made a fresh installation. Darned if I know why a
rolling release should behave differently.
Anyway, thanks for the help, I’ll let you know what happens in about a
week if it works and sooner if it doesn’t.
Possibly “akonadictl fsck” and “akonadictl vacuum” may help to alleviate this issue.

By the way, with akonadi Version 4.14.10-6.5.1 (Leap 42.2) something that happens always with “To-Do” – “Activities” – is that, if an Activity is completed before the “complete-by” date, any reminders of the style “remind x days before the ‘complete-by’ date” still pop up, despite the Activity being completed . . .
