A glitch in graphics yesterday caused me to add an unwanted widget to
the task-bar. All I can see from right-click options is how to add more
widgets or change actions of existing widgets but nothing as to how to
remove them.

Thanks, I’ve tried this but cannot drag the widget to the desktop.
Tried it on KDE4 as well as Plasma5 but no joy on either.
A different approach worked, however.
Add new “default” panel
Remove old panel.
I’ll need to try some more experiments as I discovered that I seem to
have been getting confused between “widgets” and “launchers”. In KDE4,
“launchers” can be removed by right-clicking on them and clicking on
“remove this launcher”. What I created by accident in a Plasma5 session
acts more like a “launcher” than a “widget” but it doesn’t have the
“remove” option of KDE4.

In Plasma5, unlock the Widgets
Then at the right side of the panel, there is a hamburger (3 lines)
Click on it, then you can select your widget to be removed by clicking on the “X”
Lock the widgets

The widgets seem to be unlocked by default but I locked and unlocked
them to be sure.
I clicked on the “hamburger” but what “X” was I supposed to click on?
I clicked on “add widgets” and found the widget I wanted to remove
from the task-bar but what then?
The widget on the task-bar doesn’t have an “X” on it. I realise that an
“X” can be made to appear on desktop widgets by moving to the edge of
the widget whereupon a sidebar appears but this did not happen with the
task-bar widgets.

My english is not so good, but I try to explain. When you click on the “hamburger”, a new line appears for settings of the height etc. Now move the mouse in the bottom line to the icon, which you want to remove, then appears above the icon, the name of the widget and the “X”
I tried to make a hardcopy, but it doesn’t work
