How do I remove GNOME?

Hi. I installed GNOME 2.30 and KDE with my OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit OS. I want to remove GNOME. I went into YaST -> Software Management -> View -> Patterns -> and I tried to remove the check marks next to GNOME Desktop Environment and GNOME Base System, but it does not work.

How do I remove GNOME from my OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit OS?

Please reply with detailed step by step instructions. Thank you.

You will find this quite difficult. Put it this way, I wouldn’t try myself. The problem is all the dependencies. There is no harm leaving it installed and just using kde. But you should make sure you are using these settings

Do not remove it, just do not use it (it is only a few MBs on disk). And on your next install (when you move to the next openSUSE) do not install it then.

explain “does not work”…did you get an error? a pop-up asking you to
make a decision? or did it run run run after you clicked the “Accept”
button, but when finished and rebooted there was Gnome still?

or what?

Select package by package those that belong to gnome.

Alright. I will leave GNOME 2.30 alone and I will not use it.

Sorry If am off topic but in my opinion, Although I use KDE, it will be better not to remove it(Gnome 3) . If you have difficulties/problems it would be better to write your problems here and start to solve one by one(about Gnome 3) with our help.

If I’m not mistaken the OP already did a ‘dup’ back from gnome3
Which IMO is an added complication to the request here

That is correct. I did a zypper dup back to GNOME 2.30. Everything works right now. I guess that I will leave GNOME alone and I will continue to use KDE. Thank you.
