…and still access them from Windows? I can see my openSUSE 11.1 laptop (NATHAN-LAPTOP) from my Win7 desktop (NATHAN-DESKTOP) and I can see all of the shared folders. But when I try to access them, it asks for user name and password. I type in my openSUSE login info but it says it is wrong. My openSUSE and Win7 login info is identical, same name and password for both. I can access the shared folders fine if I allow guest access on a particular share in openSUSE but I travel around a lot with my laptop and I don’t want people messing with my music! Is there a way to tell openSUSE to allow users from NATHAN-DESKTOP? Is there a setting in Windows somewhere? Help!
For those of you unfamiliar with Windows 7, just tell me what you know for Vista or XP and I am sure I can work around.
If i am getting you correct. I think by setting a group and add a user to group will do it. and a folder will also be part of the group.
Not sure what you mean. Can you be more specific?
Do you want to access your share folder in windows 7, and want to limit it to some users with diff folder permissions?

Seems like you have not set up samba users on the linux machine. Check
out this link
and see if you can get it working.
My money is solidly behind 69_rs_ss and “smbpasswd”
:shame: Forgot that step. Thank you, that got it working.
