How do I install KDE kup?

Hi KDE kup isn’t listed in suse software mgmt even though it’s a standard KDE application. BTW I’m on Kryon, downloaded today 29/9/20 and completely up to date.

I also tried to install from KDE’s kup page and discover complains with

‘couldn’t open appstream://org.kde.kup.desktop’.

So how do I install kup?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
I think your after kbackup (kup is a kernel uploader…) “Backup program based on KDE Frameworks 5”.

Thanks for the fast reply, this is my 1st opensuse installation, so much is different! Anyway …

kbackup is standalone, kup is added into system settings:

https://kde.org/applications/en/kup

I use kup on Neon unstable and Arch.

Is this what you’re looking for?

“kup-backup” - Backup scheduler for the Plasma desktop Version: 0.8.0-1.1

if so, then it’s in the KDE Extra repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_Tumbleweed

I’m on Kryon so my repos are unstable, ie KDE extras is KDE/Unstable/Extra.

$ zypper install kup-backup says it doesn’t exist.

If I use the web software portal I can find kup-backup and install a tumbleweed experimental version with a .ymp file but it wants to add 5 repos (all stable, including KDE/Extra) which all contradict with what I have so I’ll not do that until I know more, ie if these repos can co-exist.

Not familiar with Kryon, (to the extent I’ve no idea what it is).

As you obviously know, “mix ‘n’ match” repos are not a good idea.

I’ve no idea if it would work in your case, but… You could directly download the RPM http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/kup-backup-0.8.0-1.1.x86_64.rpm and try to install, although there may be dependency problems.

I’m guessing that was a mispelling of “Krypton”. But I could be wrong, and that was only a guess.

Oops yes, I mispelled it, should have been krypton, sorry.

OK… should have. as @nrickert did, guessed that.

Indeed kup-backup is not included in the repository.

Have you tried installing a directly downloaded file? (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/kup-backup-0.8.0-1.1.x86_64.rpm)

sudo zypper install {path to the file}/kup-backup-0.8.0-1.1.x86_64.rpm

although as I said you may run into dependency issues… but worth a try.

@tannington lol!

Thank-you very much that worked.

Do I mark this as solved? How?

OK… Good to hear.

Do I mark this as solved? How?

The forum doesn’t have the facility for that.

Your report that it worked (and your thanks) are enough for that.
