How do I get back the old KDE 3.5?

Maybe this has been asked a 100 times before, but I could find no definite answer:

I do NOT have the DVD, I only have the 11.1-KDE-CD.

So what do I have to do to get my old KDE 3.5 desktop back after installation?

Can I get rid off all KDE 4 stuff installed? (I do not need it.)

Thank you in advance,
Q.

Given that you have the oss repos added, open YaST’s software management and install the kde3 pattern, as you would do with any other package you want to install.

Ok, thanks, this worked. Now I have an option “KDE 3” on the login screen. Selecting it, I get my old KDE 3 desktop back.

Can I now throw out all the KDE 4 stuff?

Thank you very much,
Q.

That’s the spirit, hehehe.>:)

I do nor understand your wit. Could you pleas answer with a “yes” or a “no”!?

The question is a bit too convoluted to answer with a simple “yes” or “no”. Fact is, KDE4.x is the favourite child of the KDE developers team. They’ve already dropped support for KDE3.x. With my “witty” comment, as you call it, I was merely trying to point out how “pleased” they would be with your candid question.
In short: if you plan to stick with your installation for more than 3 months, don’t just wipe the KDE4.x. Update it regularly and maybe one day, when it’s mature enough, you’ll actually want to switch ower from KDE3.x. Many of the programs you use in KDE3.x are actually KDE4.x programs already.
On the other hand, if disk space is really at a premium, and if you’re more of an adventurous type, you could try uninstalling KDE4.x from YaST; I’m afraid many of the programs you use in KDE3.x actually depend on it, though. You may easily break your KDE3.x and force a reinstallation.
So, the short answer would be: “yes” and “no”, with a very strong propensity to “better not”.
Good luck and merry xmas;)

I would leave the kde 4 bits on your p/c. Even though you prefer kde 3.5 and are using this (like me) there are some newer programmes - which will work fine with kde 3.5 (if the kde 4 bits are still installed). One example is amarok 2.

OK, thank you very much. I will follow all your advices!
