I have made it that far but being pretty new to this I am not sure what to do, Ican see the drive but ,do I create a partition on it and if so is it an extended partition? I am not sure what to do

You can create a partition that encompasses the whole drive. You only need to make it extended if you are creating several partitions on the drive.

ok so I just go to create and a popup will ask me to choose between the two drives so I pick the new drive ( which is /dev/sdb) then another window pops up asking whethwer it is primary or extended so I choose extended?
if I choose extended this pops up showing

Enter the starting cylinder number of the partition. After that, either specify an ending cylinder number or an offset from the first cylinder (e.g., +66). It is also possible to specify the size of the partition directly (e.g., +2G, +100M, or +20000K).
and on the right side it it has a start cylinder where I can add a number but there already is a 0 in there and under that there is a end( 9 or 9+m or 3.2gb) 38912 which can be changes

You don’t need to make an extended partition unless you are making several smaller partitions. You can have a maximum of 4 primary partitions to any drive,or 3 primary with an extended partition, inside the extended you could have as many as 60 smaller partitions. Are you going to divide the drive into smaller partitions ?Have a read of this Disk partitioning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia might help on your decision
