How do I diagnose what's caused a kernel panic?

I’ve gotten about 1-2 kernel panics a week over the last few months. It has happened on Linux Kernel 4.7.x, 4.8.5.x, and now 4.9.x.

I want to know what logs do I look at to find what led to the panic and what I should look for.

Using:

openSUSE 42.1
Linux 4.9.0-2 (Currently, was previously on 4.7.x and later 4.8.5.x)
KDE 5.5.5
QT Version 5.5.1
Lenovo X1 Carbon 4th gen
Intel Skylake 4-core i7-6600U
16 GB RAM

You’ll need to determine what kind of kernel issue you’re experiencing first. The following guide can help with the methodology of diagnosing and capturing such events
