how do I add a new hard drive?

Seems simple enough, but when I have added a hard drive in the past it usually ends up in safe mode and I have to walk through the settings via command prompt and vi. Is there a better way, one that will boot the system and I can configure, format, partition in YaST?

Hi
Just plug it in and boot… just check the BIOS disk order first to make sure the boot order has not changed. If it’s still set to boot from the existing drive you should be fine, the new format is to use disk UUID’s in the fstab file rather than device names (sda, sdb etc).

If the orders are changed, can I change it within the bios?

If you browse the BIOS pages, usually the boot one, there you can change the boot order, move the disk you want booting first to the top of the list.
