An error occurred while accessing '500GB SSD', the system responded: The requested operation has failed: Error mounting /dev/sdd2 at /run/media/sophie/500GB SSD: Filesystem type hfsplus not configured in kernel.
How do I configure it? when searching for packages I only find ones for hfs but not hfsplus.
Personally, I would get the data off that device and format with a better filesystem. Or maybe replace the hardware with something a bit more modern.
From the Wiki
“HFS Plus was not designed for Unix-like systems, so features such as file system permissions and hard links had to be retrofitted when Apple moved to Mac OS X.”.
That’s the rumor And?

Okay, I don’t have an answer myself, since I have no experience with it … however I did come across this post over in another forum.
A couple of folks seem to have had success with detailed answers - so, for @sophimoo , you should read thru the thread for a possible solution!
This Ubuntu thread won’t help unless the TO is following the openSUSE SDB (pointed out by Malcolm) as hfsplus is a blacklisted filesystem on openSUSE.
I’m using a external ssd for extra storage on my mac and I formatted it as mac os extended journaled, at some point I’ll switch it to APFS, but for now im stuck with hfsplus
